Statement on the Trial of Mohammed Abdul Kuddus and Harun Rashid following the death of Megan Lee

Today Mohammed Abdul Kuddus and Harun Rashid are appearing before Manchester Crown Court having been charged with manslaughter and charges of breaking various food safety food requirements, following the death of 15-year old Megan Lee.

Megan had eaten food from the Royal Spice Indian takeaway in Hyndburn, Lancashire on Friday December 30th 2016 before experiencing an severe allergic reaction. She was admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital but sadly passed away on 1^st January 2017.

Anaphylaxis Campaign Chief Executive Lynne Regent is personally in attendance today to offer support to Megan’s family and to identify if there are specific lessons that can be learnt. This can then be taken forward into the work we do to support people at risk of severe allergic reactions.
