This online course covers common causes of allergic reactions, symptoms of anaphylaxis, how to use adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPen® and Jext®), and how to manage children with allergies in out-of-school settings, including allergen avoidance, responsibilities, risk assessment, Allergy Action Plans, storage of adrenaline auto-injectors and practical scenarios relevant to out-of-school settings.
This course takes approximately 1 – 1.5 hours to complete, at a time that suits you.
To complement this online course, we recommend you order trainer adrenaline auto-injector devices to practise with. Order these directly from the manufacturer’s websites for free: EpiPen® and Jext®.

Government guidance on keeping children safe in out-of-school settings states that ‘you and your staff and volunteers have a duty of care toward the children who attend. This means that by law you must take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of the children and to protect them from harm.’
The most serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) usually begins within minutes and can be life-threatening. Anaphylaxis always requires an immediate emergency response.
We encourage a whole setting allergy awareness approach, as this is the safest way to manage children with allergies. The more staff who have an understanding of allergies, can recognise the signs of anaphylaxis and know what to do in an emergency, the safer all children with allergies will be.

Our AllergyWise® for Out-of-School Settings course has been adapted from our School’s course, produced by our Online Training and Education Manager and qualified teacher. With further support from our Information Team, who have a wealth of knowledge about managing allergies and anaphylaxis.

No, the pass mark for the final assessment is 80% but you can re-do the assessment multiple times if needed. There is also no time limit for the final assessment.

The group leader who purchases the course can enrol users onto the course. You can do this by logging into your account and going to ‘Learning Groups’. Click on the Enrol New User button to add users by entering their name and email address. The enrolled user will then receive an email with their account login details so they can access the training. Each staff member needs their own account to complete the course individually.

Your group leader, who is the person who purchases this course for your out-of-school setting, can enrol you onto the course. They will assign user email addresses themselves to enrol staff directly. Each staff member needs their own account to complete the course individually.

No, all of our AllergyWise® courses are designed to be done individually. If you give your login details to someone else, the quizzes and course assessment will have already been completed by you and they will not be able to get a certificate of completion.
After passing the final assessment, you will be able to download and save your certificate of completion by clicking on the ‘print your certificate’ button.
You can also download your certificate of completion by logging into your account and clicking on the certificate icon in the Training area.
