Weetabix – Change in Labelling Notice

Weetabix – Change in Labelling Notice

  • 16 December 2020
  • Wheat and Gluten

Weetabix would like to inform consumers of two changes that will be made to the ‘May contain’ labelling on Weetabix Food Company Products.

This is NOT a recipe change – the ingredients remain the same. The labelling has been changed taking into account that it is likely that Oats will have a degree of cross contamination with wheat, barley or rye from the fields or via the raw material suppliers’ processor.

The change follows continued monitoring and evaluating of the requirements of consumers.

Change 1.

The warnings on the following products will be updated to read as follows:

  1. Ready brek range will have “Also may contain Wheat, Barley and Rye” added.
  2. Oatibix and Oatibix Flakes range will have “Also may contain Wheat and Rye”  added as they already contain barley.

This change is expected to be completed within the next twelve months

Change 2.

The current format for labelling is: “For allergens, including cereals containing gluten, see ingredients in bold. Also not suitable for xxxxx allergy sufferers”.

Going forward the labels will read:

“For allergens, see ingredients in bold. Also may contain xxxx.

This change may take longer than 12 months to fully implement.
