Last month (August 2023) the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) published new guidance outlining what food business operators should consider when managing changes that impact the allergen labelling on pre-packaged products.
The guidance highlights two best practice considerations including the use of additional communications and the importance of information sharing across the whole supply chain.
Looking at two scenarios that affect allergen labelling – intentional allergen presence, when a new allergen ingredient is added or remove, and unintentional allergen presence, such as cross-contamination – the guidance offers a step-by-step process of what should be considered and how the situation should be managed.
The guidance also reiterates what Precautionary Allergen Labelling is and how it should be used.
