The announcement that Natasha’s Foundation has launched Natasha’s Prize – a groundbreaking £10 million fund dedicated to research into preventing allergies – has been hugely encouraging for the allergy community.

As a charity supporting people living with serious allergies, Anaphylaxis UK warmly welcomes this significant step forward in the mission to prevent food allergies and improve lives for future generations.

Natasha’s Foundation was established by Nadim and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse following the tragic death of their 15-year-old daughter, Natasha, from anaphylaxis caused by an undeclared allergen in a pre-packaged food product. Since then, the family’s tireless campaigning and advocacy have transformed the lives of people affected by serious food allergies, most notably through the introduction of Natasha’s Law.

Allergies affect an estimated 220 million people worldwide, and rates continue to rise. At Anaphylaxis UK, our mission is to create a brighter, safer and more inclusive future for everyone affected by serious allergies. While significant progress has been made in improving awareness, diagnosis and treatment, the possibility of preventing allergies from developing in the first place could be truly life-changing.

Dr Helen Evans-Howells, Chair of Anaphylaxis UK’s Clinical and Scientific Panel, welcomed the announcement in a recent Instagram post:

“This is so important and so exciting. Whilst clinics like mine do offer treatments for those living with food allergies, it would be so much better if we could actually find the reasons they occur and find a way to prevent this from happening. It would be so nice for people not to be growing up living in fear and worry with their food allergies.”

Natasha’s Foundation’s work continues to inspire the entire allergy community, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this new research fund in the years ahead.
