AllergyWise Anaphylaxis Training

What is AllergyWise?

AllergyWise is an online e-learning course and the easiest way to learn about anaphylaxis, the risks of severe allergies and how to manage them. The courses can be worked through conveniently from your home or workplace, wherever and whenever it suits you. The courses are simple to follow with interactive diagrams and graphics which makes learning about anaphylaxis and teaching those around you easier than ever, no matter who you are or what you do.

AllergyWise for GPs and Practice Nurses
This online e-learning course is designed to provide GPs and Practice Nurses who are seeing patients face to face every day all they need to know about how to support patients and their families, whether giving a severe allergy diagnosis or supporting their longer-term care.

 

Topics include:

  • Guides to early recognition of symptoms
  • Information on crisis management and emergency treatment
  • Information on allergen avoidance
  • Specific details on how the Primary Care team should manage patients with severe allergies, including:
    • How and when to refer a patient to specialist allergy services
    • What interim care and support should be given to patients while they wait for their appointment
    • What long-term management and support patients need after diagnosis

 

Resources available to teach others upon completion:

  • Step by step guides to running training sessions
    • One for use with patients, families and friends, who may come to the surgery for information about allergies and anaphylaxis
    • One for use with training your colleagues, containing tips and key messages

 

GPs and Practice Nurses can work through this course at their own pace, it will take around 4 to 6 hours of self-directed study. Upon successful completion of this AllergyWise course (75% pass rate) you can download your Course Completion Certificate.

AllergyWise for Healthcare Professionals
This online e-learning course has been designed as a ‘train the trainer’ course for school nurses, first aid trainers, community nurses and nursery nurses with responsibility for training others.

 

Topics include:

  • How to recognise the symptoms of a severe allergic reaction
  • How to avoid allergen exposure
  • How to use all currently licensed adrenaline injectors, including EpiPen, Emerade and Jext.
  • How to respond effectively in an emergency
  • How to manage risks in school, early years and other community settings where severely allergic children and young people are cared for
  • How to set up individual healthcare management plans
  • How to run your own anaphylaxis training in your school, nursery or other care setting with our easy to follow step-by-step guide

 

Resources available to teach others upon completion:

  • Trainer adrenaline injector devices
  • Exclusive film clips showing correct methods for using different devices
  • Resources to help you run your own training sessions with confidence including lesson plans, presentations, speaker notes and a step-by-step guide

 

Healthcare professions can work through around 6 hours of self-directed study. Upon successful completion of this AllergyWise course (75% pass rate) you can download your Course Completion Certificate, bearing the RCN accreditation logo.

 

This AllergyWise course has been accredited by the RCN Centre for Professional Accreditation until July 30th, 2020. Accreditation applies only to the educational content of the programme and does not apply to any product. The course has also been endorsed by the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI). CPD points can be earned by recording reflection of learning gained from this course.

AllergyWise for Pharmacists

This free online e-learning course is designed to provide comprehensive information and guidance for pharmacists on the management of severe allergic conditions and the knowledge to effectively support patients with severe allergies.

 

Topics include:

  • Guide to early recognition of symptoms
  • Allergic reaction mechanisms
  • Emergency treatment
  • Dispensing advice and impact on other health issues
  • NICE Quality Standards on Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis

 

This course includes two modules, pharmacists can work through this course at their own pace, each module will take around 30 minutes to complete. Upon successful completion of this AllergyWise course (75% pass rate) you can buy a certificate for £5 plus VAT for proof. There is a link at the end of the course.
