Kinnerton Confectionery is a trailblazer when it comes to allergen-free food products. It all started with nut-free chocolate, and now from May there is NOMO – chocolate from Kinnerton that can be eaten by anyone. With this product, we are serving what is now the fastest-growing category of “free from” food products.
Demand for “free from” products has grown exponentially over the last ten years in the UK. This is partly due to an increasing number of people with allergies or food intolerances. It is also driven by trends such as veganism and people choosing a more conscious lifestyle, which includes a healthy diet. However, until now this fast-growing food category has been lacking chocolate products that actually taste good, are reasonably priced and are available in the forms that consumers want. This is because the production of dairy-free, tasty and authentic chocolate is technically challenging and the alternative ingredients are more expensive than milk.
Two years in development
Kinnerton Confectionery has a long and proud tradition of manufacturing products for allergy sufferers. Our efforts to produce nut-free chocolate products started back in 1999. This expertise, coupled with our passion for chocolate, has now driven us to close the gap that has emerged in the “free from” market. The aim was to develop a recipe that uses cocoa, rice flour and natural flavourings to create the taste and, above all, the texture of milk chocolate. The result is a ground-breaking product that anyone can and, more importantly, will want to eat, irrespective of dietary restrictions. Over two years of development have gone into NOMO, our innovation.
The new NOMO – no missing out! brand is fresh, current and absolutely mainstream. It gives everyone the opportunity to eat delicious chocolate, irrespective of allergies or diet trends. The NOMO product range will include dark and milk chocolate products that are completely vegan and do not contain any dairy products, gluten, egg or nuts. The range includes two 85 g bars in the varieties “Dark Chocolate” and “Creamy Choc,” as well as three smaller bars in the varieties “Creamy Choc”, “Fruit & Crunch” and “Caramel & Sea Salt.” It is available exclusively at Tesco and Holland & Barrett for a few weeks from May and will then be available from major retailers across the whole of the UK.
