The Anaphylaxis Campaign has worked hard to develop its supporter base, through a mutually beneficial relationship of providing information and growing much needed awareness and funds. We continue to provide helpline support and information to our supporters across the UK, local support groups to offer a safe environment to share experiences and a membership scheme which offers up to date information and advice to healthcare professionals, individuals and corporations.
Over the past 25 years, fundraising for the Anaphylaxis Campaign has gone from strength to strength. As the prevalence of allergies increases, so have the number of passionate and dedicated supporters who strive to improve their own lives and those of the allergic community, by embarking on weird and wonderful fundraising events to raise awareness and funds for our cause.
The growth of social media has been a game changer for small charities such as ours with a national reach but without government funding or a budget with which to run media advertising campaigns. We are able to share the inspirational stories of our fantastic supporters to a wider audience increasing awareness of their stories and of severe allergies and anaphylaxis.
With many still unaware of the life changing impact of severe allergies, the high-profile coverage of many cases of anaphylaxis and tragic deaths associated with it, have highlighted our cause and encouraged a wider network to engage with us. The growing number of children and families affected by severe allergies has prompted a re-positioning of our event fundraising opportunities towards family led events and the personal nature of our support focuses us on the need for a personalised and bespoke fundraising support function which addresses the individual circumstances their needs. Our charity is becoming a recognisable presence at key national events and we want to grow this potential, to reach out to the many families who have not heard of our charity but would benefit from its support and information.
We continue to learn from the larger charities and developments in technology in our approach to fundraising. Everything we do is underpinned by the need to reach out, heighten awareness, increase communication and remove stigma and isolation around severe allergies.
We are working with a large number of schools and universities to offer support strategies which minimise potential risks, as well as providing resources for staff training and age appropriate presentations for children.
The development of our Anaphylaxis Awareness Week offers an opportunity for everyone to get involved in fundraising or awareness raising, with the support of our resources and fundraising materials. This week is growing year on year and we would encourage schools, workplaces and families to ‘Go Orange for Anaphylaxis’ and show their support.
We would like to thank our incredible supporters for everything they have helped us to achieve over the past 25 years. Their hard work in raising much needed funds has made many of the Anaphylaxis Campaign projects and awareness programmes possible. But of course, as awareness increases, so too does the demand on our resources. We can’t continue our work without the generosity of our supporters, and we hope that you will continue fundraise and donate, helping us to make a real difference.
