AllergyWise® Early Years Setting Award

We have launched our Anaphylaxis UK AllergyWise® Early Years Setting award, to recognise and reward early years providers across the UK committed to raising allergy awareness.

Anaphylaxis, the most serious allergic reaction, usually begins within minutes and can be life-threatening. We encourage a whole setting allergy awareness approach as this is the safest way to manage children with allergies. The more staff who have an understanding of allergy, can recognise the signs of an allergic reaction, and know what to do in an emergency, the safer all children with allergies in the early years setting will be.

What the award is....

This award recognises early years settings who complete our AllergyWise® for Early Years Settings online training course, have robust allergy protocols in place, encourage allergy awareness with staff and children, and ensure the setting is an inclusive environment for children with allergies.

You can find an example, editable risk assessment here.

Awarded settings will receive a digital certificate and a digital logo to use on their website and letterheads.

Early years setings will be awarded if they fulfil the following criteria:
  • right_arrow_orange_icon All staff (minimum 5) complete our AllergyWise® for Early Years Settings online training course
  • right_arrow_orange_icon Have a protocol in place, accessible to all staff, to ensure staff are aware of individual children’s allergies and symptoms
  • right_arrow_orange_icon Have a protocol in place to ensure children prescribed adrenaline have two of their own adrenaline auto-injectors available at all times
  • right_arrow_orange_icon Conduct a risk assessment, with the child's parents/carers, for all new joining children with allergies, and any children newly diagnosed
  • right_arrow_orange_icon Ensure children with allergies have the opportunity to participate in all activities, and are not made to feel excluded
  • right_arrow_orange_icon Share our allergy awareness resources, included in our training course, with older children in the setting

What the award is not....

This award is not an endorsement or accreditation of the settings allergy management policies or protocols. Awarding an early years setting does not mean the setting is 100% safe or free from any allergen. We are relying on information provided by the setting and reserve the right to remove the award if necessary.
