AllergyWise® - Anaphylaxis Training for Early Years Settings

Online, self-paced training designed to help staff recognise, treat and manage anaphylaxis confidently.

Allergic reactions are common - be prepared

Over 20 million people in the UK are living with an allergic condition, including around 8% of children, and around 5 million have allergies severe enough to require specialist care. For schools and early years settings, this means supporting children with allergies and creating environments where they can learn and participate safely.

Being prepared to recognise and respond to an allergic reaction – including anaphylaxis, the most serious type of reaction – can help prevent serious harm and may save a life.

Why the AllergyWise® for Early Years Settings course is important

Creating a safe and inclusive environment is an essential part of safeguarding in early years settings and schools. Staff play a vital role in supporting children with allergies and helping them participate safely in everyday activities.

Anaphylaxis can develop rapidly and may be life-threatening without immediate action. In early years settings, staff are often the first to recognise symptoms and respond in an emergency.

Ensuring your team understands allergen risks, can recognise the signs of an allergic reaction, and knows how to respond confidently can make a critical difference – helping to protect children, staff and visitors alike.

This course helps settings to be compliant with the requirements of the Safer Eating section of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

  • Why do I have to buy for a minimum of 5 staff?

We encourage a whole setting allergy awareness approach –  the more staff who are allergy aware and can recognise the signs of anaphylaxis, the safer all children with allergies in an early years setting will be. Training all staff ensures that the setting is always covered during breaks, illness, CPD and other absence and is not left in a vulnerable position because the trained staff are unavailable.

From September 2025 changes to Safeguarding in the Early Years will mean that all staff in a setting will need to be trained.

Our course also includes additional benefits: allergy awareness resources for young children plus the opportunity to achieve our AllergyWise® Early Years Setting award.

  • What if I don’t need to buy for 5 staff?

We have determined that 5 staff are the minimum that settings need to train.  This ensures that the setting is always covered during breaks, illness, CPD and other absence and is not left in a vulnerable position because the trained staff are unavailable.

From September 2025 changes to Safeguarding in the Early Years will mean that all staff in a setting will need to be trained.

Once purchased, you will be able to use the course places for 12 months, so if you have any staff changes, new staff members, ad-hoc staff, there will be courses available for them to take.
