Allergy training course for nurses, health visitors and other healthcare professionals working in a community setting.
This course is suitable for nurses, health visitors and other healthcare professionals working in a community setting and other relevant environments which involve contact with people with serious allergies who want to develop their knowledge about allergy and anaphylaxis.
It emphasises the key messages of recognising symptoms, avoiding allergen exposure and explains what to do if an allergic reaction does occur.

This course covers allergen avoidance, early recognition of symptoms and crisis management. The course focuses on managing serious allergies and there is emphasis on avoiding allergens and the need to undertake risk assessments to ensure that those living with serious allergies are included in all they participate in.
Please note, this is not a Trainer the Trainer course. It is intended for the user to upskill themselves in knowledge about allergy and anaphylaxis.
With up to 3 million people in the UK and up to 8% of children affected by food allergy most people will come into contact with someone who is living with allergy at some point in their lives. It is not just within the clinical setting that a strong knowledge of allergy is needed. The population never know when they will meet someone living with allergy and who needs support in managing their allergy or who needs assistance because they are experiencing anaphylaxis.
The most serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) usually begins within minutes and can be life-threatening. The more health care staff that are allergy aware, who understand the importance of allergen avoidance, know the signs of an allergic reaction and what to do in an emergency, the safer everyone with allergies will be.

Our AllergyWise® for Healthcare Professionals course was originally produced by Sue Clarke, BSc (hons) RGN, RHV, SPPH, DN, P, Asthma Dip, advisor to Anaphylaxis UK. The course has been substantially updated for 2025 with clinical support from Dr Helen Evans-Howells (Dr Helen Allergy), Chair of Anaphylaxis UK Clinical and Scientific Panel, our Information Team, who have a wealth of knowledge about allergies and anaphylaxis and our Education and AllergyWise® T training manager, a qualified teacher and retired Headteacher.
