The Anaphylaxis Campaign has developed AllergyWise online anaphylaxis training for school nurses and healthcare professionals responsible for training teachers and staff in schools and early years settings. AllergyWise for healthcare professionals has been accredited by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) for 6 study hours and endorsed by the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI).

The online programme will enable healthcare professionals to improve their knowledge through self-directed study within the 2-month licence period.

The two distinct parts of the programme include:

• Part One - focuses on the key messages of how to recognise the symptoms of a severe allergic reaction and how to avoid allergen exposure as well as providing comprehensive advice on what to do if a reaction does occur.

• Part Two - provides healthcare trainers with help and advice on how to run their own anaphylaxis training in schools and early years settings.

In addition to the online programme, students on the AllergyWise healthcare professionals programme will receive a printed resource pack which includes a PowerPoint presentation, speaker notes, handouts and trainer auto-injectors.

AllergyWise online includes some module quizzes and assessments and an RCN certificate will be issued to those who complete the course satisfactorily. 

The AllergyWise online training programme has been written by Sue Clarke, Nurse Advisor to The Anaphylaxis Campaign, who developed the original AllergyWise school nurse training programme. AllergyWise online is also recommended as a refresher for those who have previously undertaken anaphylaxis training.

Learning outcomes:

After completing this course you will have:

• improved and updated your knowledge in managing severe allergies in schools and early years settings

• enhanced your skills in training others in the use of auto-injectors

• developed a greater understanding of severe allergies, which can be used to reduce anxiety among school or nursery staff, parents, carers and pupils.
