The Anaphylaxis Campaign is the only UK wide charity solely focused on supporting people at risk of severe allergies. We need your stories to help us to raise awareness about allergies and anaphylaxis in the media and across our own communications channels. By giving us permission to use your story you are helping the vital work we do to achieve our ultimate aim, to create a safer environment for all people at risk of severe allergies.
What do I need to know before applying?
Before applying to become a media volunteer you will need to hand a few short paragraphs about your experience of living with allergies and anaphylaxis and any details of your diagnosis and treatment, if they are relevant. Don’t worry about making your story perfect as anything you say to us as part of your application is confidential. If you are aged under 18, your application must be supported by your parent or guardian.
How will my story will be used?
We might tell your story in writing, through photos or videos or audio recordings. You could also give a presentation at an event or press interview if you feel comfortable. Each request we receive is different, but broadly speaking you can give us permission to use your story in the following scenarios:
- In our communications and partner publications: such as adverts, newsletters, leaflets, on social media or our website – this could be a short sentence or paragraph testimonial or longer case study.
- At an event: if you are willing to speak or present at our conferences, support groups or other awareness raising events like allergy shows.
- In the local or national media: through press releases or press interviews in newspapers, radio, TV and magazines.
Why is my story important?
By becoming a media volunteer, you can
- Help highlight the experiences of real people affected by severe allergies and anaphylaxis.
- Raise awareness of the symptoms and what it is like to manage in everyday life.
- Give inspiration and hope to other people affected by allergies and anaphylaxis.
How will you support me?
It can be exciting to have the opportunity to share your story, but also emotional too, so we will give you a clear explanation of what you need to do and make sure you are comfortable.
We will carefully assess the journalists and organisations we choose to share your story with. The media world can be very fast paced and hectic, with very tight deadlines, but we will contact you before releasing any detailed information about your story to journalists. We will never share your contact details without your consent.
We understand that you have your own personal commitments, so will help you with and cover travel, meals or accommodation expenses that you might need when helping us at an event or when being interviewed. We will also make every effort to enable you to have moral support from your family, friends or carers. If you want to be more or less involved due to a change in your circumstances, we will respect this.

We can’t guarantee that we will be able to recall every published material that includes your story.
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy includes the principles that we always ask for consent from parents or guardians when using stories or pictures of children aged under 12 and routinely ask for consent from parents or guardians of children aged 12 to 18. We avoid using children’s full names in image captions and limit the amount of personal information we share about children aged under 18.
