The successful control of food allergens along the food chain requires an assessment of risk and the subsequent management of that risk.
The main objective of an allergen risk assessment exercise is to safeguard allergic consumers. It can also help food companies decide when “may contain” statements are necessary and when they can be avoided.
Fortunately there is plenty of expert guidance available for manufacturers.

Food manufacturers are invited to become corporate members of the Anaphylaxis Campaign. They will have access to regular bulletins, which examine the latest issues surrounding food allergy, will be invited to conferences at no cost other than the cost of the annual subscription, and will be able to inform their customers about any product changes that have implications for people with food allergies.
