Adrenaline inhalers
These are effective at treating anaphylaxis where the primary symptoms are swelling in the throat (laryngeal oedema) and asthma. However they are CFC-propelled and in Europe there is a policy of not using CFCs in medicines. CFCs are compounds that have been implicated in the accelerated depletion of ozone in the Earth's stratosphere. Adrenaline inhalers are technically unavailable in the UK.
In any case, most allergy experts agree that injectable adrenaline is an essential treatment in cases of life-threatening anaphylaxis. Adrenaline inhalers were never regarded as a substitute for injectable adrenaline.
