Trustee Changes
At this meeting we also announced several changes to our board of Trustees.
Tom Horwood is now our Chair taking over from Tony Hines. We would like to thank Tony for his hard work and commitment as our chair; Tony remains a Trustee of the Campaign. Tom Horwood is Executive Director at East Hampshire and Havant Councils, and has worked in the public, private and voluntary sectors. He has family members with severe allergies.
Tom said about his appointment, "There is still a lot of work to be done to increase awareness and improve services for people with severe and life-threatening allergies. The trustees are committed to building on the charity's successes in working with medics, the food industry, politicians, patients and their families. As we do not receive government funding, it is paramount that our resources are used effectively. Staff and trustees continue to be focused on making sure that everything we do directly supports people with severe allergies."
Dr. Brian Wookey is now our Vice Chair. Brian is a retired GP with extensive experience in the healthcare sector, having held various posts within the NHS, most notably Chairman of the East Lincolnshire Primary care Trust. Brian Wookey joined the Campaign's board of Trustees to provide experience as a doctor in primary care, and more recently as chairman of an NHS Trust.
At this meeting Dr. Brian Wookey and Dr. Rebecca Knibb were re-elected as Trustees, and we were also very pleased to elect a new trustee, Sarah Cooper. Sarah is an experienced family Barrister and a member of Thomas More Chambers. Sarah has a particular interest in international family litigation and specialises in Spanish and Latin American family law. She is a trained resolution family mediator and fluent Spanish speaker. Sarah is the parent of a child with severe allergies to foods and animals.
Sarah said of her appointment, “"Living with anaphylaxis is never easy for the sufferer or their carers. The campaign has helped me and I hope to do as much as I can to ensure that it continues to help others and to make sure that the needs of anaphylaxis sufferers are taken into account at all levels."
The Anaphylaxis Campaign is looking forward to another year of campaigning and supporting our members.
