Guidance for schools
A document published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2005 sets out a framework within which local authorities, local health trusts, schools and early years settings can work together to develop policies to ensure that children requiring medicines receive appropriate support.

In addition to the above document, Medical Conditions at School: A Policy Resource Pack has been compiled by the Medical Conditions at School Group (a group of charities including Asthma UK and The Anaphylaxis Campaign) to complement Managing Medicines in Schools and Early Years Settings. The Times Educational Supplement (TES) published an article "Recipes for tragedy" - "Food allergies can lead to anaphylactic shock - and death. But many school staff lack medical training to deal with classroom emergencies" - the article appeared in their magazine on 11 March and featured interviews with our Vice President David Reading, our Nurse Advisor Sue Clarke and one of our members who is also a School Adminstration Manager.
