AllergyWise online training for GPs and practice nurses
Study time: 6 hours
Allergywise is accredited by both the Royal College of GPs and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
Developed for school nurses and healthcare professionals, AllergyWise online for healthcare professionals has been endorsed by the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI).
Developed for GPs and practice nurses and designed to provide those in general practice with the knowledge needed to support patients with, or developing, severe allergies, this AllergyWise online course includes two key elements:
-
Information about allergen avoidance, early recognition of symptoms and crisis management. Specific details are given on how the Primary Care team should manage patients with severe allergies. The course aims to answer the following:
-
How and when to refer the patient to specialist allergy services?
-
What interim care and support should be given to patients while they wait for their appointment?
-
What long-term management and support do patients need after diagnosis?
-
A printed resource pack including two PowerPoint presentations:
-
One for use with patients, their families and friends, who may come to the surgery for information about allergies and anaphylaxis
-
One which can be used to train colleagues, containing lots of tips and key messages. The helpful suggestions on how to present the training to others should be particularly relevant for those with limited experience of teaching.
The development of AllergyWise for GPs and Practice Nurses has been made possible thanks to a generous educational grant from ALK Abelló.
