The Campaign's Standard for allergen control
The Anaphylaxis Campaign has launched a new Standard for the food industry to promote the consistent management of allergens in food production.
The Standard is the result of two years of work, including a rigorous consultation exercise.
Linked to the scheme are new allergen-related training courses for manufacturers, caterers and auditors.
The Standard is intended to promote:
- High-quality management of allergens leading to reduction of risk for food companies.
- Accurate communication of risk to consumers.
- Increased consumer confidence.
We believe that any company adopting the Standard will significantly reduce risk and be able to demonstrate due diligence. Food companies will be invited to opt for independent certification, although this is not a compulsory part of the scheme.
The Standard covers:
- Allergen labelling as legally required, taking into account the allergens that must be labelled under European law.
- Allergy advice boxes.
- “May contain” advisory labelling.
